Folk Arts Oxford aims to promote folk and traditional dance, music and song in the Oxfordshire region. In particular we are interested in improving access for those who might face barriers to participation in the arts.

Through our funded project work: children in Headington have learned about local lad William Kimber, and the musical legacy he has left; a new band called Iris has been formed, who accompany all their songs with Makaton signing; children from mainstream and special schools in Oxfordshire have the chance to create music together, and perform on the main stage at Folk Weekend: Oxford.

Alongside our own projects and events, FAO works collaboratively with other local organisations, forging links and creating opportunities for folk artists to work in education and community projects, as well as showcase their talent in local events.

Owl Light Trio are Jim Penny on concertina, Jane Griffiths on fiddle and viola and Colin Fletcher on guitar. All three musicians have deep roots in traditional music, share a passion for tunes from Ireland, the UK and Brittany, and draw upon their combined influences to create complex, compelling and heartfelt arrangements. Between them they have performed and recorded with Maddy Prior, Nancy Kerr, Tim van Eyken, Red Dog Green Dog, and Duotone. Owl Light Trio has performed at Oxford, Sidmouth, Shrewsbury, Tandem and Klangrausch folk festivals. Their debut album ‘Owl Light’ was described by fRoots as 'A fine CD of beautifully-crafted music that is both memorable and clever'.

In this rare solo set, Steph West draws two strands of her varied musical life together: intricate dance tunes from England and Ireland with evocative songs including blues and jazz influences. Drawing on two decades of performing experience, Steph creates broad landscapes of sound as well as intimate moments.

Finstock Unplugged is a friendly sing-around club that meets on the last Monday of every month at Wilcote Art Studios (4 Hunt's Copse, Wilcote Riding OX7 3DX). Feel free to come along and sing a song or two, or just to listen.

If you wish to enjoy a drink at the gig, please bring your own bottle.
